Who we are
Westside Ale Works is a proudly independent craft brewery, tucked away on Alfred Street in South Melbourne.
Founded by Casey Wagner in November 2016, Westside was inspired by the bold flavours and laid-back vibes of the U.S. West Coast. Under Casey’s leadership, the brewery quickly became a local favourite – known for hop-forward beers, a relaxed warehouse-style taproom, and a community-first spirit.
In November 2024, Westside entered a new chapter with local owner Jonathan taking the reins. While the faces behind the bar may have changed, our passion for great beer and good times hasn’t. We’re still all about creating a warm, welcoming space behind the roller door – where anyone can pull up a stool, grab a pint, and feel right at home.
Our beer line-up is all about bold, flavourful brews with a strong American influence.
We specialise in styles like American Pale Ales, West Coast IPAs, Sours, and Stouts – with a rotating tap list that keeps things interesting. While we’ve dabbled in barrel-aging and spirits in the past, we’re currently keeping our focus firmly on beer, with plans to experiment with new styles down the line.
For those after something different, we also offer a variety of guest options including local ciders, guest beers, soft drinks, and a limited selection of in-house distilled spirits.
